Celebrating a Sustainable and Happy Christmas poster

Celebrating a Sustainable and Happy Christmas

Christmas is a time for indulgence, however you can be sustainable and eco-friendly and still have an indulgent Christmas. Whether you’re choosing to warp your gifts in recycled paper, shopping from small businesses, or thinking mindfully about what you’re gifting to family and friends. Only good can come from your promise to limit waste and even small changes can help make a positive impact in helping you in celebrating a sustainable and happy Christmas. So here are our top tips on having eco-friendly and sustainable festivities.

Rent a Christmas tree

We all love real Christmas trees but isn’t it sad when they all end up in bins at the end of the holiday season? Well be sad no more, there are now a number of companies out there who will rent out a real Christmas tree. In fact they deliver it to your door and when the festive period is over, they’ll pick it up and replant it in January. A win win for everyone. Read more about renting a Christmas tree here.

Wrap gifts with recycled paper or fabric

Did you know that more than half of us re-use last year’s wrapping paper? Now that’s more like it. Re-using our wrapping paper or using recycled paper or fabric is a great way to help the planet.

There will be fewer trees cut, less energy used and less waste for our beautiful mother earth. And this small change can have such a huge impact.

If you are buying new, buy paper without foil or glitter and make sure your paper passes the scrunch test. Basically scrunch up the paper in your hands and then let it go. If it stays scrunched up then it can be recycled. Click here for more Christmas gift wrapping ideas.

Buy presents they’ll love to eat

We all walk around the shops thinking about what to buy for our friends and family. Well how about buying smaller edible gifts? We are all going through a cost of living crisis and edible gifts are an excellent way of spoiling your loved ones. Buy gorgeous edible gifts that they might not buy for themselves like exotic dried fruits.

More expensive dried fruits like mangoes and papaya may be out of reach for some people. So why not buy larger packs and split the pack between several presents.

At Medfood we have a large and gorgeous selection of dried fruits for you to choose from. Whether it’s exotic fruits like papaya, mangoes or dried pineapple or favourites like figs and dried apricots. For a super special present you can even make your own treat box.

Everyone loves chocolate

We all love chocolate and you don’t get any more indulgent than dried fruits or nuts wrapped in delicious dark or milk chocolate or yogurt.

Chocolate covered nuts give you all the taste and benefits of nuts with added smooth dark, milk or white chocolate. Choose from our range of chocolate almonds, Brazils or peanuts or from dried fruits such as chocolate raisins. Looking for something different? Why not give some chocolate covered ginger or honeycomb bits? View our full range for inspiration – and go on get a little treat for yourself too.

Buy presents that last

It’s easy to panic buy a present, especially when you don’t know what to buy someone. Why not opt for something that will last? Buying potted house plants not only add beauty to a home but they’re also great for our environment and well being.

Gift handmade presents made with love

Another great way to help the environment and to save money too is to make your own presents. Home made edible gifts such as fudge or cookies and crafts make great presents. What’s more it’s your chance to put your own stamp on your present and make it personalised.

Now we don’t all have the baking gift, but that doesn’t mean you can’t give lovely home made presents. You can always jar up some delicious nuts, mix your own muesli or create cookies mixes ready to go. View or range of delicious nuts from our range. We roast and flavour all our nuts in house for full aroma and flavour.
